Here are the top 25 beaches in the United States according to TripAdvisor (http://www.tripadvisor.com). They are listed here by state, along with some comments about them from reviewers on TripAdvisor. Not surprisingly, the majority are in the states of Florida (9), Hawaii (7) and California (5).

Florida

  • South Beach: Great place to people watch
  • Siesta Beach: Features beautiful white sand and blue green water. The only negative is that parking can be a challenge
  • Saint Pete Beach: You can walk for miles in either direction
  • Pensacola Beach: Beautiful white beach with good fishing from the pier
  • Clearwater Beach: Soft sand, warm water, calm waves
  • St. Augustine Beach: Great for walking or fishing, and if you have a 4X4 you can drive on it
  • Panama City Beach: Miles of wide beach
  • Fort Myers Beach: Excellent for shell collecting, watching birds, or observing dolphins
  • Hollywood Beach: Has a lovely boardwalk

Hawaii

  • Ka’anapali Beach: Gorgeous beach with great snorkeling
  • Wai'anapanapa State Park: Famous for its unique black sand
  • Kailua Beach Park: Powdery soft sand, calm waves and not so crowded
  • Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve: Great for snorkeling with a variety of big fish
  • Poipu Beach Park: Excellent spot for a novice snorkeling
  • Manini'owali Beach: Beautiful white sand beach, but the surf can be dangerous at times
  • Hanalei Beach: Beautiful scenery surrounds Hanalei Bay

California

  • La Jolla Cove Beach: Great for wildlife viewing with plenty of seals and pelicans
  • Newport Beach: Good surfing beach
  • Coronado Municipal Beach: Soft sand beach and a concrete boardwalk if you have a stroller
  • Carlsbad State Beach: Great place to watch the sun go down
  • Crystal Cove State Park in Laguna Beach: Wide, sandy and over three miles long

Maine

  • Ogunquit Beach: This wide, expansive beach is great for walking in the summertime

Maryland

  • Ocean City Beach: Great spot for a family vacation

Massachusetts

  • Race Point Beach: At certain times of year you can see whales offshore

South Carolina

  • Hunting Island State Park: Excellent hiking trails and you can go up to the top of the lighthouse
